MILINKO PANTIĆ

Pantić joined Atleti as a seasoned player in the 1995–96 season, having come from Greek football. He soon proved himself to be the most decisive player of the season in which the club won the Double, as Atleti secured many of their points from set pieces – whether in the form of goals or thanks to those corner kicks which, years later, are still honoured by the bouquets of flowers from Doña Margarita. It was his header that saw Atlético defeat FC Barcelona and win the Copa del Rey in 1996. A year later, he was the top scorer in the Champions League – the only Atlético player ever to have achieved this. The 1997–98 season was his last with Atlético Madrid, after which he signed for French side Le Havre.
